ABSTRACT

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of preoperative PD-1 inhibitor tislelizumab combined with CRT in unresectable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Method(s): This is a single-arm, phase II trial, planned to enroll 30 patients. Eligibility criteria include histologically confirmed unresectable thoracic ESCC stage at cT4bNxM0 (AJCC 8th). Radiotherapy was delivered to a total dose of 50Gy/25f, concurrently with cisplatin (25 mg/m2) and nab-paclitaxel (100 mg) (QW, at least 3 cycles). Then followed by two cycles of tislelizumab (200 mg, Q3W), cisplatin (75 mg/m2, Q3W) and nab-paclitaxel (150 mg/m2, Q3W). If curative resection was considered, esophagectomy was performed within 4 weeks. Patients with pathologically residual disease would receive tislelizumab (200 mg, Q3W) for 1 year. The primary endpoint is 1-year progression free survival rate. Result(s): From December 2021 to July 2022, 21 patients were enrolled. 16 patients completed chemoradiotherapy and received immunochemotherapy. Reasons for 5 patients who did not receive immunochemotherapy included patient refusal (n=1), progressive disease (n=1), esophageal fistula (n=2), waiting for immunochemotherapy (n=1). Finally, 13 patients proceeded to surgery, with R0 resection rate of 100%. Reasons for not undergoing surgery after immunochemotherapy were esophageal mediastinal fistula (n=1), surgery delay due to COVID-19 epidemic (n=2). The pCR and MPR rate was 61.5% (8/13) and 76.9% (10/13). G1, G2, G3 immune related pneumonia occurred in 3 patients, respectively. >=G3 AEs occurred in 9 (42.9%) patients. Postoperative complications included anastomotic fistula (2/13), pleural effusion (2/13), pneumonia (1/13), myocardial damage (1/13), delayed wound healing (1/13). Conclusion(s): Chemoradiotherapy followed by immunochemotherapy might be a useful conversional treatment option for unresectable ESCC. Esophagectomy after this could be safe with acceptable complications for unresectable locally advanced ESCC. Clinical trial identification: ChiCTR2100054327. ABSTRACT

Misinformation presented in different modalities about the COVID-19 pandemic has been prevalent. One approach to reducing the negative effects of misinformation is through corrective information. However, it is possible that people develop counter-attitude towards the corrective information and reaffirm their belief in misinformation, called the boomerang effect. Fewer studies examined how different modes of corrective information about COVID-19 may address the boomerang effect. With a 3-by-3 between-subject experiment design (n = 210), we first presented one of the three modalities of misinformation (text, image, video) to the participants, followed by one of the three modalities of corrective information (text, image, video) to examine the effect of the corrective information. The results showed that there was no boomerang effect after correction in all modalities, indicating that all corrective information successfully reduced participants' perceived credibility and potential action for misinformation. In the post-hoc analysis, the correction in the video mode worked best on text misinformation. Our results also suggested that image misinformation worked least effectively in terms of conveying misinformation. © 2022 Owner/Author.

ABSTRACT

The contact restrictions and hygiene measures in the Corona pandemic have posed challenges to many people's supply practices. To date, research on impacts of the Corona pandemic on sustainable consumption practices, such as buying products with less packaging, is still in its infancy. Based on qualitative interviews and a standardized customer survey, this article examines how shopping practices and supply routines have changed during the Corona pandemic, also in relation to alternative ways of consumption, such as unpackaged shopping. The article concludes with reflection on the implications the Corona pandemic has for sustainable consumption. © 2022 Zentralausschus fur Deutsche Landeskunde. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, preliminary research has reported a significant decline in physical activity (PA) and an increase in sedentary behaviour (SB) among typically developed children and adolescents. Limited research has looked at the current situation of PA and SB during this pandemic among children and adolescents with intellectual disabilities (ID). This study investigated the situations about PA and SB among school-aged children and adolescents with ID on China's mainland during the COVID-19 outbreak. METHODS: In total, 837 parents of children and adolescents (ages 6-18 years) with ID from 15 special education schools of Shandong Province in China were recruited through convenience sampling in the study. Parents reported PA and SB among children and adolescents with ID through the Children's Leisure Activities Study Survey-Chinese version (CLASS-C) online questionnaires. RESULTS: From parents' reports, Chinese children and adolescents with ID during the COVID-19 pandemic participated in approximately 10 min of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, and engaged in approximately 530 min of SB every day. Meanwhile, only 17.4% of children and adolescents with ID were able to achieve the recommendation of 60 min of daily moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and 76.1% of children and adolescents with ID spent more than 2 h on SB per day. Additionally, the problems of decrease PA and excessive SB were more prominent in older adolescents with ID compared with younger children with ID. CONCLUSION: In China, the low level of PA and high level of SB is particularly evident in children and adolescents with ID during the outbreak of COVID-19. The great majority of children and adolescents with ID did not meet the recommended amount of PA while undergoing excessive SB under the long-term home quarantine environment. Therefore, immediate attention and great effort should be made to deal with this severe situation among this vulnerable population in the mainland of China.
